January 17, 2018 - Trails Update: Four BDSC volunteers were out yesterday checking trails and removing downed trees. The good news is, there is some trail base left (north of Flynn's), but it is very thin and very icy for the most part. We've had 2 or 3 cm of the light and fluffy stuff over the last couple of days which helps, but unfortunately, it will require much more snow for grooming operations to resume. More warm weather and rain is forecast for the weekend, so it may be some time yet before we can open trails again. Let's hope they're wrong about the rain......like they were about the "significant" snow called for last weekend!
Thanks to Gord, Mike, and Wayne for helping me with yesterday's trail clearing and to Don and Scott for their ongoing efforts to solve the mysteries of Little Blue's maintenance requirements!
Everyone is asked to stay off the trails until they are posted on the OFSC Interactive Trail Guide as being Available, or with Limited Availability.
The thin trail base, which our grooming staff has worked so hard to establish, can be quickly damaged by riding in the warm, wet weather. Left untouched, the trails should be in good shape once the cold returns, especially if we see the snow forecast for the weekend! Staying off the trails now can make the difference between having to pack the trails all over again, versus being able to groom the new snow into the trails we all want to ride.
